Building handover
Building information is commonly held across separate plans, manuals, legal records and equipment systems. P3DF proposes a portable digital record linking spaces, assets and operational data.
Our objective is for every building owner to receive a portable digital twin at handover. A P3DF package would record the building’s spaces, assets and operational information for use across compatible applications, home robots and maintenance systems.
Data portability and continuity
The devices in a home change. Services close. Owners move. The understanding of the space should remain useful through those transitions.
P3DF’s open-format direction puts portability at the center. An exported twin provides a point-in-time reference. The cloud vision adds a connected model that applications can work with, while preserving a path back to a portable artifact.
AI agent use cases
To locate a book, a robot needs observations, object identities, room layouts and navigation constraints. P3DF is being developed as a structured representation of that context.
The ambition extends beyond home robots: smart-home platforms, building operations, inspections and handover could all benefit from a shared spatial model. These use cases guide the project’s development; they are not claims of live deployments.
About CIFR
P3DF is created by the Council for Independent Frontier Research, a non-profit organisation. Its goal is to help a broad community build an open, vendor-neutral foundation for agent-interactive digital twins.
We aim to earn adoption through useful implementations, interoperable files, independent testing and an open process. The project intends to complement established standards.
